Leadership Summit

dsc00529.jpgOn April 26, 2013, over 100 people participated in Resilient Monroe’s Leadership Summit. The Leadership Summit featured presentations (see below) from some of Michigan’s leading experts on the challenges facing the Monroe Community and the tools available to build resilience. Among the experts on hand, State Climatologist Dr. Jeff Andresen provided an overview about what is known about the changing climate and the anticipated impacts on Michigan’s infrastructure, agriculture, natural resources, human ecology and economy. Laura Rubin, Executive Director of the Huron River Watershed Council, provided an overview of how Michigan communities can adapt to changing weather conditions through improvements to the local ecosystem such as tree planting, wetland expansions and stormwater retention.

In the final portion of the Summit, participants were asked to join one of six Community Action Teams. The Community Action Teams (CATs) will help guide future planning discussions and help establish goals and recommendations for the master plan. Working together, Summit participants worked to identify the assets, strenghts, issues and opportunities associated with each Action Team topic (see results).

The CAT teams will be meeting May 15th, May 29th and June 5th
